My mother and I share the same birth place, Udaipur. The only difference is that she experienced life there as local, and I experienced it as a tourist during my summer breaks.
When my mother was growing up she wasn't permitted by her family to explore Gangaur Ghat and its beautiful by-lanes. In the process of working on a travel story on the area, I came across lanes like Kol Pol, Ganesh Ghati and Kumar Wada names that had been strangers even to my grandparents for decades now.
I noticed a slow familiarity taking form, and these images are a documentation of my time spent there.
